At Mohawk Research Corporation, teaching is central to our mission. Our approach emphasizes individualized instruction tailored to our clients' immediate needs. We believe our teaching experience extends, enhances, and reinforces our work as consultants.

The CPW®
We teach commercialization. Our signature educational program, the Commercialization Planning Workshop (CPW)®, introduces innovators to the key concepts of effective technology commercialization and teaches participants to apply these concepts to their own projects. Because business planning assistance is readily availably from many sources, the CPW® focuses on managing technology development for both technology developers (R&D organizations) and technology manufacturers.

Our outstanding staff, demanding curriculum, low student-to-instructor ratio (usually 4:3), and individual meetings with nine different professionals (equivalent to 4.5 hours of professional consulting) creates a "total immersion" experience culminating in participants' drafting and presentation of one-year commercialization plans.

Since 1984, over 1,500 technology and product innovators have benefited from valuable, project-specific insights and learned to use practical planning tools through their participation in the Mohawk CPW®.

The CPWR
In 1993, in conjunction with U.S. federal research laboratories, Mohawk Research developed the Commercialization Planning Workshop for Research Personnel-the CPWR.

The CPWR sprang from an important discovery made in the field. Despite strong backgrounds in science and technology, we found that senior research personnel are often not well prepared to commercialize the technologies developed at their facilities. The CPWR experience helps to change that. It offers research personnel an insider's view of business strategies and industry practices in a format tailored to the specific commercialization planning needs of each participant.

The CPWR helps to researchers develop the skills and conceptual vocabulary required to communicate effectively with industry. Among other strategies, participants learn to identify industrial applications for new technologies early in the development process; how to "slice and dice" intellectual property to optimize commercial potential; and how to develop and select promising partners.

We continue to develop our content and teaching know-how through these workshops. Their lessons and materials can be custom-tailored to meet the needs of individual businesses, corporate departments, and research institutions.
